If you are just getting started with your mindfulness journey, then you should take a look at some apps that give you the guidance to get you started. A lot of these apps help you with meditation which can help you reduce your stress and anxiety levels. Calming your mind has many benefits, including a more restful sleep, greater sense of happiness and a feeling of peace in the present moment.


Headspace was founded in 2010 and is one of the earliest mindfulness apps to launch. The app has a free basics pack to get you started. This pack has a 10-day set of meditations for beginners, it’s a great starter for anyone getting into meditation. Headspace also has an excellent interactive Netflix experience called Unwind Your Mind.

Calm has won many awards for its app and has been downloaded over 100 million times. Sleep stories are pretty cool as it has a bunch of talented individuals including Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey and Harry Styles to help you get to sleep each night. Calm also offers Masterclasses, which are audio programs taught by world-renowned mindfulness experts.

Buddhify is quite nifty as it understands the busy lifestyles we lead, and it is all about on-the-go meditation which you can do whenever you want. They offer a low one-off fee rather than a monthly subscription to their service.

  • Also offers meditation for children with different categories such as Going to Sleep, Calming Down, Feeling Better and Growing Wisdom
  • Foundations offers a learning experience of what meditation is and how it works


Breathe app by Apple

This is a fantastic app if you have an Apple Watch. The app is really simple and guides you through a series of deep breaths, with reminders to take a breathe every day. You can choose the time you want to use it, just follow the display and vibration on the watch for your breathing session.
